Füzen - November 3201

The next encounter with Joel happened sooner than I expected. Feeling exhausted from the council meeting, after the usual pleasant dinner, I planned to go to my room right away.

I was strolling along on the short walkway from the spacecraft’s common area when Rühr appeared next to me without prior notice. Truly, the process was gradual, so it didn’t startle me at all, but had something similar happened to me as a kid, I wouldn’t have been able to sleep alone for months.

~Nice to be here again. This ship of yours is quite pleasant,~ he passed his thought with an outburst of joy.

~I must admit I’m not even surprised to see you here,~ I continued walking with a slight smile, not caring that anyone would see us.

~And you shouldn’t. I’m only here to help, as your channel is still not up to par,~ Rühr mirrored my joyful mood.

It was always exciting to receive information straight into my mind, and the terms Rühr used somehow always had a deeper meaning. I knew he referred to the communication with Joel, but the exact meaning of the channel was still unclear to me.

~If you desire, you guys can talk now,~ he suggested, revealing the purpose of his appearance.

~Couldn’t we do it after I had some decent sleep? I’m positively beat,~ I had more respect for Joel than trying to talk to him with a dull and tired mind.

~Do you think your fatigued physical mind would affect the conversation?~ Rühr asked almost playfully then continued. ~Here, hold my hand.~ Rühr’s silhouette stopped and extended his hand.

Out of curiosity I obeyed, pretended to give him a handshake, and stretched out my hand. After touching his strange visual projection, a pleasant shiver ran through my body. The next instant I was on Füzen, which lurched me into a sudden panic, and my heart made an earnest attempt to leap out of my chest. Next, I felt a residual discomfort and nausea similar to when I was preparing for the expedition back on earth.

“Now, that was funny,” Rühr smiled, noting that the spatial jump, as I later learned, can have some strange effects on the unsuspecting traveler for the first time.

The onia particles immediately covered my body, and I noticed that my footwear had stayed on the spacecraft.

“Oh, don’t worry about your shoes. My friends have examined them previously and made a much more suitable pair for your stay here. If my memories don’t deceive me, we will be here quite a lot.”

We walked into the nearest forcefield building. The onia particles were doing their job very effectively, as my queasiness was gone within a few minutes. I walked into a room and instinctively started looking around for my new footwear, thinking someone just left me some weird-looking pair somewhere.

“So, how comfortable are they?” Rühr asked looking at my feet.

This is when I noticed the half-translucent ankle-length forcefield wrapping my feet that was quite fabric-like. It reminded me of the forcefield chairs I liked so much.
